Our Story
SONA was founded by friends and neighbours, Neha Nagpal and Nikki Greengrass in 2022. Through their shared love for craft and jewellery, the duo behind the London-based curatorial label, discovered a new design dialect emerging among India’s contemporary fine jewellery designers. One that is reimagining and remoulding the most-loved and cherished material of the country— sona (gold).
Handpicked from India, and made for the world, Neha and Nikki bring some of the best names in design to an evolved global aesthete and jewellery purveyor. Their curation, that includes Adi Handmade, Angana Nanvaty, Estaa Gems and Tara Fine Jewellery, culminates under SONA Fine Jewellery for their refined aesthetic, conscious approach and highest quality materials in the purest of heritage Indian craft traditions. Each designer is selected for their unique play with fine materials such as 18k and 22k gold, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, all imagined in a new light and for a wearer that spans the spectrum of everyday jewellery to occasionwear.
Seeing a growing curiosity for Indian design and artisanal approach, and the desire for Indian contemporary designers who are catering to a modern and western aesthetic, the duo went on a personal journey of discovery. They started in Mumbai’s contemporary design studios where jewellery is seen as modern heirlooms that evoke emotion and self-expression. Next step was the old city walls of Jaipur, where gems and jewellery form a part of a 280-year-old legacy. But also, where designers are reinvigorating age-old craft with a modern lens forming an elevated aesthetic attainable and alluring for a new generation.
To their global community of instinctively stylish women who place quality and story above all else, Neha and Nikki bring their exclusive collection of Indian design via private views, pop-up experiences in London’s Chelsea, and luxury retailers. Here, touch, feel and connection forms the core base between client and creator, wearer and product.
